The Canberra TransACT Capitals, like all of Canberra, were dazed and confused as they entered the Belconnen Basketball stadium on Sunday following the events of the previous 24 hours. But the game must go on and ironically it was the Townsville Fire who Canberra faced. It was also Lucille Bailie’s 350th WNBL game and the team was not going to let their Captain or their city down. Canberra defeated the Fire 82-73 and in doing so secured 1st place on the WNBL ladder. The TransACT Capitals now have a good chance of hanging onto top spot with only 2 rounds to go and first place guarantees two home finals for Canberra. This weekend the TransACT Capitals travel to Melbourne to play Dandenong on Friday night and Bulleen on Saturday. Two wins will all but cement the Minor Premiership for Canberra.
Giving back to the Community
With the sudden re-scheduling of yesterday’s game from Tuggeranong, the TransACT Capitals were not expecting much of a crowd, but to there surprise over 300 fans packed into the tiny Belconnen Stadium. All money taken at the door has been donated to the victims of Saturday’s horrific bush fires.
