Media Release - Monday January 27, 2003

The Canberra TransACT Capitals have sealed the minor premiership with wins over Dandenong (95 - 76) and Bulleen (94 - 60) in Melbourne over the weekend. With the Sydney Flames losing to Adelaide on Sunday, the TransACT Capitals number one spot is now unassailable by any other team in the WNBL.

“This is the goal we were aiming for” said TransACT Capitals coach Tom Maher. “We are now guaranteed two home finals and a fantastic opportunity to win this year’s championship.”

Capitals giving it up for Canberra!

The Canberra TransACT Capitals will be changing the venue for the final game of the WNBL regular season against the Adelaide Lighting on the 31st of January 2003 from the Tuggeranong Indoor Basketball Stadium to the AIS Arena.

Thanks to the cooperation and support from TransACT, the AIS Arena and Ticketek, this change has been made and the net profit for the game will be donated to the ACT Bushfire Appeal.

“This is an opportunity for all Canberra basketball fans to give their support to the bush fire victims.” Said TransACT Capitals Captain, Lucille Bailie.
