The Canberra TransACT Capitals have been waiting patiently, but they need wait no longer! Eleanor Sharp will be back on court tonight as the TransACT Capitals take on the Adelaide Lightning. Sharp has been out since December with Glandular Fever, but is now ready to return, just in time for the finals. Revolving Injury door! Just when the Canberra TransACT Capitals were about to get a full team on the floor, they have lost another player to injury. Rookie Nerrida Cooper tore her ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) whilst training for the ACT under 20 team on Sunday afternoon. It’s a cruel blow for the 18 year old who is one of the front runners for this year’s WNBL Rookie of the Year award and only one week out from playing in her first WNBL final series. She is expected to have surgery within a week and then a six month recovery period before she can play again. Bushfire Benefit will be huge! The Canberra TransACT Capitals will be taking on the Adelaide Lighting at the AIS Arena, and will also be aiming to raise money for the ACT’s Bushfire victims. As if the great game isn’t enough, the TransACT Capitals have managed to enlist the services of internationally acclaimed a Capella group “The Idea of North” to sing the National Anthem and a short set at half time. Capitals printing sponsor Goanna Print have also come to the party, donating the night’s programs free of charge! The TransACT Capitals will be feature a new face that is sure to spark emotion amongst the players and crowd. Twelve year old Elouise Dickson lost everything including her prized Capitals poster when here family's Duffy home was destroyed by the bushfires. Elouise excitedly accepted an offer by star player Kristen Veal to sit on the Capitals bench tonight when Kristen visited Elouise yesterday. Thanks to the cooperation and support from TransACT, the AIS Arena and Ticketek, the net profit for the game will be donated to the ACT Bushfire Appeal. |
