Canberra Capitals Bailie's Back !!
Media Release - Thursday February 6, 2003

Canberra TransACT Capital’s captain Lucille Bailie has decided to continue her career in the WNBL into the 2003/2004 season.

Bailie retired from the Women’s National Basketball League at the end of the 2000/2001 season, only to be talked out of retirement by good friend and Canberra Head Coach Carrie Graf.

Bailie joined the TransACT Capitals and found a new lease on her already distinguished career, which began way back in 1986 with Melbourne’s Bulleen Boomers.

"My primary reason for locking in a final WNBL season, is that I am in good enough form to continue to contribute and lead a very talented team.” “I am constantly impressed by my Capitals team mates who are wonderful and talented athletes, and moreover, quality people whom I have a lot of respect for."

"I love playing in this League and I believe in our National League competitions and National teams." "I think we need to find a way to lure our top female players back to our National League."

Incoming Capitals Coach Carrie Graf was excited by Bailie’s decision.

"It's a huge boost to our recruiting drive to secure Lucille for another season." "The chance for a talented Junior like Holly Grima to play alongside Jackson and Bailie is fantastic."

Bailie and the TransACT Capitals are currently chasing their goal of back to back WNBL titles and with 353 WNBL games under her belt, Lucille feels confident she can guide her charges towards another championship.

The Canberra TransACT Capitals will take on the Townsville fire in WNBL Semi Final No. 1 this Saturday 8 February at 4pm at the Tuggeranong Indoor Sports Stadium.
