Canberra Capitals Minister To Recognise Champion Canberra Capitals
Media Release - Wednesday February 26, 2003

The Minister for Sport, Ted Quinlan MLA, will today (THURSDAY) host a reception for the victorious Canberra Capitals at the Legislative Assembly from 12.30pm.

"It has been a tough year for this team but they are making a nice habit of winning the WNBL Championship, this being their third victory in four years,” the Minister said.

"In light of the recent hardship inflicted upon our community by the bushfires, the win reflected the attitude displayed by our community in confronting this crisis.

"The Capitals' victories in both the semi-final and Saturday’s Grand Final were very gusty, come-from-behind wins, displaying enormous amounts of character and team spirit to get over the line.

"Our national sporting teams are an integral part of our community and this great win by the Capitals provided an enormous lift at a time when we all needed it.

"Four Grand Finals appearances in a row and back-to-back Championships is a fantastic achievement in anyone’s book – I hope that I am again sitting in the stands next year as the Capitals try for a three-peat," Mr Quinlan said.
