The 2003-04 'Price Attack' Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) season will tip-off on October 3 with the draw released today. The Perth Lynx under new head coach Murray Treseder will open the new season when they visit the students of the Australian Institute of Sport on October 3. The game is the first of three for the Lynx in Round One with the team from Western Australia also playing the reigning League Champions, the Canberra TransACT Capitals, as Lauren Jackson and her team open their title defence at the Southern Cross Stadium on 4 October. The Lynx also face the AIS once again on 5 October. Perhaps the most highly anticipated match of the 2003-04 'Price Attack' season will be when Canberra host Sydney on November 15 in a grand final rematch.
The Canberra TransACT Capitals have won three of the past four WNBL championships and are looking forward to defending their title again this season. The regular season is scheduled to be completed on 1 February 2004 and the 2004 'Price Attack' WNBL Finals series will commence on the weekend of 6 and 7 February when the top four teams will play in the Semi Finals. The Preliminary Final will be held on 14 February with the 2004 'Price Attack' WNBL Grand Final set for 21 February. Jackson fueled a 20-5 second-half run to bring Seattle to within one point of the Lynx, but that was as close as the Storm got in a 69-58 loss at Minnesota. Jackson scored a career-high 30 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field and 11-for-12 from the line. Jackson currently leads the WNBA in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game. |
