Long serving partnerships are set to continue as it was announced today that the winning combination of old friends, the Canberra ‘TransACT’ Capitals and major support sponsor Effective People have agreed to a new two year partnership that will continue their existing long term relationship.
In basketball terminology the Capitals achieved a double/double statistic as they also confirmed the re-signing of 2002/3 championship players Eleanor Sharp and Kellie Abrams. Sharp has committed for another two seasons bringing her tenure to 9 seasons with the Capitals. Abrams signs on at least until the conclusion of the forthcoming 2003/4 bringing her time with the Capitals to 7 seasons as they pursue a hat trick of consecutive championships.
Effective People Pty Ltd, a Canberra owned and operated recruitment agency, committed for another two years in a major support role to the Canberra TransACT Capitals. Effective People's Managing Director, Gary Hanson, said today "we are delighted to continue our relationship with the Capitals and One Basketball Canberra. This new sponsorship arrangement means that the two organisations will have worked closely together for a total of five years".
One Basketball Canberra Chief Executive Ross Graham commented "It is fantastic to have such continuing commitment from local business. Effective People offer's the Capitals more than just financial sponsorship. The company has employed a number of the players in recent years including Eleanor Sharp, Kellie Abrams, Lucille Bailie, Kim Wielens and Jacinta Hamilton."
In response Gary Hanson said "we recognise the terrific skills and personal qualities that the women are able to offer an employer but know that it is often difficult for them to find work that allows them to meet their training and playing commitments. We have provided flexible employment arrangements that benefit both the players and the company".
Of the current players, Eleanor Sharp combines part-time work with Effective People and its associate company, SRC Solutions, with her university studies and basketball training, and Kellie Abrams works full-time for Effective People, supporting the company's recruitment consultants. Another Capital recruit will join the Effective People team in September.
Kellie Abrams commented that "working for Effective People has broadened my personal development and enabled me to gain valuable work experience within a dynamic team. Their continued support has enabled me to combine a career with playing elite level basketball with the Capitals and has been tremendous".
