Canberra Capitals TransACT Capitals suffer another defeat in Russia.

The Canberra TransACT Capitals suffered their second defeat in the FIBA Women's World Cup in Samara, Russia last night when they lost to home team Volgaburmash SGAU Samara 56 to 72.

In front of a 2500 strong crowd the TransACT Capitals matched it with the home team in the first quater with the scores locked at 14 all at the first break. Volgaburmash SGAU Samara broke away to outscore the visitors by 9 in the second quarter and 6 in the third quater. With the damage already done the TransACT Capitals rallied in the final quater getting outscored by only 1 point. The home team's size proved to be the TransACT Capitals greatest problem in containing Volgaburmash SGAU Samara with the home team pulling down 43 rebounds to the TransACT Capitals 28. Jackson continued her dominance in this tournament with a game high 26 points and 11 rebounds and was supported by Jo Hill with 13 points and Lucille Bailie with 8 points, both of which have been consistent contributors throughout this tournament.

The Canberra TransACT Capitals will use today's day off to prepare for the finals starting on Saturday. The TransACT Capitals will be facing Brazilian and South American Champions Sao Paulo Futebal Clube who are still searching for a win after their 4th place Group A finish. The winner of this game will compete for the tournament's 5th and 6th spot with the losers to contest the 7th and 8th spot.

In other games the WNBA Select Team experienced their first defeat of the tournament going down to Russian side UMMC Ekaterinburg 54 to 68. This result sets up a semi final berth between the two Russian teams UMMC Ekaterinburg and Volgaburmash SGAU Samara while the WNBA Select Team will face the undefeated French team USVO Valenciennes to make it to the gold medal game. Korean side Wooribank Hansae will face Mambas de Mozambique for the right to contest for a 5th or 6th finish while the loser will fight for the 7th and 8th spot.

The Canberra TransACT Capitals next game will be on Saturday 18 October at 5pm AEST.
