Canberra Capitals Lauren Jackson Continues her Dominance of Women's Basketball!
Media Release - Monday 20 October 2003

After taking out the coveted WNBA MVP award in September, Canberra TransACT Capital's star Lauren Jackson continues her dominance of women's basketball. Last night Jackson received another trophy to place on her already crowded mantelpiece, MVP of the inaugural 2003 FIBA Women's World Cup in Samara, Russia.

While the TransACT Capitals proved they are a competitive team on the world scene, Jackson confirmed her reputation as the best female basketball player currently playing the game. Jackson top scored in 4 of the 5 games she played during the 6 day invitational tournament and received the nod as the individual game MVP for the same number of games, missing out once to TransACT Capitals captain Lucille Bailie. Considering her statistics, it's no surprise Jackson was honoured with the award. Over the five games Jackson poured in 153 points (which included 12 three pointers), pulled down 57 rebounds, blocked 11 shots and picked up 9 steals. With an average of 30.6 points per game at 58% from the field and 50% outside the arc and 11.4 rebounds per game, Jackson was the obvious choice.

Lauren Jackson will travel back to Australia with the TransACT Capitals, arriving on Wednesday 22 October. After a day of rest and recreation in Sydney, Jackson will join the team in Canberra for a light training session before travelling to Townsville on Saturday for the TransACT Capitals fourth round match against the Fire.
