Canberra Capitals TransACT Capitals Return to Australia

The Canberra TransACT Capitals are due to return to Australia tomorrow morning after their participation in the inaugural FIBA Women's World Cup in Samara, Russia.

As one of only eight teams in the world to be invited to play in the prestigious event, the TransACT Capitals proved their ability as a competitive club as well as further demonstrating the strength of the Australia "Price Attack" Women's National Basketball League. Finishing fifth overall, the TransACT Capitals faced teams who had a significant size advantage with a much greater amount of international experience in their roster. This didn't stop the TransACT Capitals facing every team with the same level of skill, aggression and confidence they demonstrate in the "Price Attack" WNBL week in, week out. With three wins and two losses for the tournament, the future of the TransACT Capitals and female basketball in Australia looks strong.

The success of this tournament is sure to see this event grow every year. Not only was the team treated to some of the greatest basketball games the world has to offer, they were the recipients of tremendous hospitality. The TransACT Capitals will return to Australia with high spirits fuelled by good competition, great team bonding and the sharing of an experience that none of them will forget.

Carrie Graff, Lauren Jackson and Kristen Veal will remain in Sydney for some much need rest and relaxation before returning to Canberra on Friday 24 October 2003 for final preparations for the game against the Townsville Fire in Townsville on Saturday night.
