Media Release - Thursday 23 October 2003

Time for one last play, TransACT Capitals up by one point, Townsville have the ball in a driving move to the basket. The shot goes up, Jackson goes up, the shot is blocked, the crowd goes wild, the TransACT Capitals make their fourth consecutive WNBL grand final!! This is the memory everyone has of the last meeting between the Canberra TransACT Capitals and the Townsville Fire in the 2003 semi final at the Southern Cross Stadium in Tuggeranong. This weekends game between these two power houses of the Price Attack WNBL is sure to be another exciting and emotional game as the Townsville Fire attempt to turn their last result against the TransACT Capitals around when they met in Townsville on Saturday.

Arriving back in the country yesterday after their participation in the inaugural FIBA Women's World Cup in Samara, Russia, the TransACT Capitals are looking forward to resuming their Price Attack WNBL season as the current league leaders. With two convincing wins over Perth and the AIS, the TransACT Capitals are expecting a tough, physical and emotionally charged game in what has emerged as one of the newest and strongest rivalries in the league. Playing five games in six days and travelling a total of seventy four hours in the last twelve days, the TransACT Capitals have opted to take the next two days off training to ensure fatigue does not become a facture in this weekend’s game. Townsville have had a difficult start to the season with only one win from their three outings. With the loss of high profile signing Carla Boyd to French side Tarbes Gespe Bigorre, Townsville will be keen come out strong and get their season back on track.

The game is already a sell out and will be at SEA FM Stadium in Townsville on Saturday 25 October 2003, tip off at 8:00pm.
