Canberra Capitals Top of the Table Clash Looming
Media Release - Tuesday 28 October 2003

The Canberra TransACT Capitals thrilling 81 to 74 win over the Townsville Fire on Saturday has set up an exciting weekend in basketball. The TransACT Capitals will face the only other undefeated team in the league when they take on the Dandenong Rangers at the Southern Cross Stadium on Friday night. The Rangers will be only half the challenge as the TransACT Capitals travel to Sydney to face the Sydney Flames on Saturday.

The Dandenong Rangers have had an excellent start to the season winning all of their three opening games which included the round two upset when they defeated the Sydney Flames by 8 points. The recruitment of ex Canberra TransACT Capital and sister of Lucille Bailie, Jacinta Hamilton, has proven to be a success with Hamilton providing a consistent and valuable contribution in all three games. With Rangers guard Carly Wilson showing good form, the TransACT Capitals will have a fight on their hands as both teams attempt to keep the perfect record and top position on the Price Attack WNBL ladder. Tip off is at 7:30pm Friday 31 October at the Southern Cross Stadium, Tuggeranong.

The grand final replay is set to be another exciting show down with the Flames looking to reverse last years result and get the upper hand on the TransACT Capitals. The season start for the Flames has been one of the most challenging facing WNBL power houses the Adelaide lighting and Townsville Fire in the first two rounds. After convincing wins over both teams the Flames have struggled in recent weeks with a one point win over Bullen and a loss to Dandenong and Adelaide. The opportunity to get their season back on track will sure to be a strong motivator for Sydney and the continued rivalry between the two teams will make this a competitive and exciting game. Tip off is at 7:30pm Saturday 1 November at Sydney University Sports and Aquatic Centre.
