Last weekends performance over the Dandenong Rangers and the Sydney Flames has seen the Canberra TransACT Capitals emerge as the only team to remain undefeated after five rounds of the 2003 / 2004 "Price Attack" WNBL Season. The excellent start to the season has confirmed the TransACT Capitals as the title favourites at this early stage.
The TransACT Capitals 62 to 45 win over the Dandenong Rangers was a hard fought battle with both teams vying for the top spot. Lauren Jackson's game high 22 points and 18 rebounds proved to be the difference as the only TransACT Capital to hit double figures. The strong defence shown by both teams was a feature of this game with every point and every rebound gained being hard earned. The TransACT Capitals challenge for a successful weekend was always going to depend on how the team backed up to the Sydney Flames the following night. A slow start made by the TransACT Capitals was a sign of the hard game less then 24 hours earlier with Sydney jumping to an earlier lead thanks to some excellent shooting. The pressure of the game was shown by the high number of turnovers in the second half as the TransACT Capitals clawed their way into the lead. Jackson again proved her dominance with 39 points and 19 rebounds to seal the 67 to 56 win for the TransACT Capitals.
This weekend's game will see further emotion and competitiveness as new recruit Kate Cohen faces her old side the Bulleen Boomers. The season start for Bulleen has not be the most successful, but they have proven they are a more then competitive side narrowly missing out on a win over Sydney in round three. With a full week off between games the TransACT Capitals have had the opportunity to rest and overcome the intense schedule the team faced in October. The game is on Sunday the 9th of November at the Southern Cross Stadium in Tuggeranong. Tip off at 2:00pm.
