Canberra Capitals Old Rivalries Set to Ignite
Media Release - Tuesday 11 November 2003

The Canberra TransACT Capitals will be keen to keep their undefeated record for the 2003 / 2004 Price Attack WNBL season when they face old rivals the Sydney Uni Flames this weekend. The TransACT Capitals have the upper hand in the second of three grand final replays this season, winning the first game between the two sides 67 to 56 when they meet in Sydney in round 5.

The strong rivalry between the two clubs stems from the last three grand finals when the two power houses of the Price Attack WNBL fought for the championship, the TransACT Capitals being successful on the last two occasions. With Carrie Graf being successful in coaching a championship for both clubs, the intimate knowledge of each others programs ensures the games between the two clubs are exciting and full of emotion. Previous grand finals have little to do with this season and current form would suggest that the TransACT Capitals may have the advantage going into this weekends game. Although the TransACT Capitals seem to have an upper hand on their rivals, minor injury concerns have the TransACT Capitals approaching this game with extreme caution. With the Flames coming off a tough fought win against Perth over the weekend, the TransACT Capitals are determined not underestimate their opponent.

This weekend could potentially raise another milestone in Lauren Jackson's career. With a game high 31 points against Bulleen over the weekend, Jackson missed out on scoring 3000 WNBL points for her career by just one. The milestone is an inevitable achievement in such an outstanding career and places Jackson into an extensive list WNBL legends that have achieved this feat before her including the likes of Shellie Sandie and Michelle Timms.

This weekends game between the Canberra TransACT Capitals and the Sydney Uni Flames is on Saturday November 15. The game will be held at the Southern Cross Stadium, tip off is at 7:30pm.
