The Canberra TransACT Capitals were dealt a rude shock on Saturday night with an 88-61 loss to the Sydney Uni Flames. Without star Lauren Jackson, Canberra was already under pressure but found no sympathy from Sydney who unleashed their best form of the season thus far.
This weekend Canberra host cross town rivals, the Australian Institute of Sport on Friday night at Southern Cross Stadium before flying to Adelaide on Saturday to face second placed Adelaide.
Friday night is a must win for the TransACT Capitals and a valuable chance to adjust to playing without Lauren Jackson. The Institute’s size will be of concern for Canberra who will be without Jackson’s league leading 15 rebounds per game.
Saturday’s game against the Adelaide Lightning will be a tough assignment for Canberra. Adelaide is second on the WNBL ‘Price Attack’ ladder and a win against Canberra will see them seize the top position. Size again will be a concern for the Caps with the Lightning boasting the tallest line-up in the country.
