In an attempt to break the WNBL Regular Season attendance record the Canberra TransACT Capitals will be moving their January 30 home game against the Townsville Fire from Southern Cross Stadium to the AIS Arena.
The current record stands at 4,110 people set last year in Townsville against the TransACT Capitals.
The AIS Arena which was once the home of the Canberra Cannons hasn’t seen a basketball game since February 21 2003 when the TransACT Capitals won their third WNBL title. That game saw a sell-out crowd of over 5,000 people and it is that sort of crowd the Caps will be looking to emulate on January 30.
Of added interest to the January 30 game will be the fact that Canberra Captain Lucille Bailie will equal the record for the most games played in the WNBL. The current record is held by Sydney Uni Flames Head Coach Karen Dalton with 375. Ironically, Bailie will break the record the following night in Sydney against Dalton’s team.
